DIY Window Plant Hanger

Our kitchen window was this awkward space that I wasn’t sure what to do with. I didn’t want to put a curtain up, I’m not a huge fan of curtains in the kitchen, but I didn’t just want to leave it open. I decided to make this window plant hanger. I originally wanted to put herbs in it, but quickly realized that I just don’t have the green thumb for those, ha! Anyway, here’s a quick tutorial on how I made these window plant hangers.

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:
3/4” Round Wood Dowels
Curtain Brackets
Clip Rings
Jute or Macrame Rope
Terra Cotta Pots

STEP 1:
You’re going to need to measure the space that you want your plant hanger to hang, Mine is hanging between two cabinets so I measured the inside space. Once you have your dowels measured out, you can place the curtain brackets. I choose to hang two rods to hang plants from, you could just hang one or more! Once you place the curtain brackets you can put the dowels in place.

STEP 2:
Next you need to tie the jute or macrame rope around the pots. Start by looping the rope around the pot and tying a knot. Then, take a clip ring (I took the clip off the ring and just used the ring) and put the rope through it then take the yarn and tie a knot of the other side of the pot to the original loop. Now do that for all the rest of your pots!

STEP 3:
Once you’ve got the pots and rings together you can plant your chosen plants in the ports slide them onto the dowel.

AND YOU’RE DONE!

This is a great way to liven up a small window or is very practical if you use a lot of herbs in your cooking. Again, before I realized I didn’t have the green thumb for herbs I planted cilantro, basil, oregano and rosemary. I killed them, so quickly. So. Quickly. I ended up replacing them with these easy to care for succulents.

Note, I spray painted three of the terra cotta pots gold and the plants in those pots started killing the succulents slowly. Maybe this is common plant knowledge, but be aware if you choose to spray paint the pots.
